Royal travel rules: Kate Middleton and Queen forced to fly commercial in this circumstance
The Queen, Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle, you could see one of them on your upcoming flights for this reason. The royal family travel all over the world, often using private jets. However, there are some rules that they must follow when they travel.
Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, are often seen travelling on private jets.
The luxury flights are something most Britons can only dream of. However, not even the Royal Family can count on private travel.
In fact, royals may only charter a private jet for one special reason – when they are on official business.
For example, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George, and recently jetted off to Sweden and Norway on a plush looking private jet.
However, the busy trip was a state visit to the northern countries, where they met both royal families in an action packed schedule.
The private flight is afforded to the royals when they are working hard, however, it is not used for every single business trip.
This is because the Queen sets a travel budget for her family, and they have been instructed not to break bank when it comes to spending.
Taxpayer money funds these flights, meaning that the royals cannot be seen to be spending money on luxury flights irresponsibly.
Details of the royal accounts show that royal visits in 2016/2017 cost the taxpayer £4.5 million.
This includes Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, George and Charlotte, as well as other close members when they are on official business.
Flights are often the biggest cost with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s tour around India and Bhutan costing £62,331 for a private jet.
The most expensive trip came in at an eye-watering £154,000, for Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s’ nine-day tour of Romania, Italy and Austria.
The travel bill was even increased by £500,000 this year, compared to previous years for travel excursions undertaken by the royal family.
How much does the Royal Family cost?
It is hard to equate the overall cost of the royal family, as they have many expenditures.
In June 2017 it was revealed that the Queen’s salary or official funding would be increased by £6 million to £82.2m.
However, thrifty Kate Middleton traveled with the public on a British Airways flight to visit the Netherlands, and they also flew with an airline on the way home from California.
For personal trips the royals must pay out of the Duchy of Cornwall, of which Prince Charles is currently in charge.
This is likely why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were seen travelling on on a British Airways flight to Nice by travellers.
The Duchess of Cambridge is currently pregnant. When is Kate Middleton’s due date?
Kate’s due date has been revealed on by a royal expert, who says the baby is expect to arrive on April 23 2018.
