The Royal Wedding of the Year Prince Ernst August of Hanover Jr. and Ekaterina Malysheva
No pomp and ceremony here! Prince Ernst August of Hanover marries Russian designer Ekaterina Malysheva in a VERY low-key city hall wedding (but there will be a big castle bash too)
Prince Ernst August of Hanover, 33, today married in a simple civil ceremony
His bride, Russian designer Ekaterina Malysheva, wore an elegant silk dress
The couple, who live in London, had the Prince’s brother and friend as witnesses
But the Prince’s father did not attend and reportedly refuses to accept the union
Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Russian fashion designer bride, Ekaterina Malysheva tied the knot in a surprisingly simple ceremony today.
The 33-year-old aristocrat, who is distantly in line to the British throne, wed his fashion designer fiancee in a civil ceremony at Hanover City Hall.
The couple live together in London, where the Prince works in banking and Ekaterina, 31, runs her own clothing line EKAT, which counts stars including Sienna Miller and Rita Ora among its fans.
But the ceremony was just the first part of an extravagant wedding plan, with Saturday’s church ceremony and ensuing celebrations set to be a society event, featuring a reception and dinner held between two of the Hanover family castles.
The happy couple – who have been together nearly six years – smiled broadly as they posed for pictures with a small number of guests.
Only intimate friends and close family attended the ceremony, including Prince Ernst’s brother, Prince Christian, and socialite Dina Amer.
The blonde beauty wore an elegant light rose silk dress, which is speculated to be one of her own designs.
The talented creative was born in Russia but grew up in Prague. She moved to the UK at just 19 years old to study at the London College of Fashion.
After gaining experience, Ekaterina founded EKAT in 2013, and it has proved a success.
Ekaterina demonstrated her sartorial prowess at the wedding, pairing her simple frock with an on-trend pair of nude heels.
Far from the ostentatious floral bouquets often seen at royal weddings, the wavy-haired blonde carried just one bunch of yellow roses.
The bride also appeared to have opted for the ‘no make-up make-up’ look so popular this year, showing off her flawless complexion.
Prince Ernst, whose mother was a descendant of Queen Victoria donned a plain purple tie and dark suit for the ceremony, but may choose a more luxurious outfit at the weekend.
The pair will be married on Saturday 8 at the Marktkirche church in Hanover, then head to the castle Herrenhäuser for a reception before a lavish dinner at Marienburg Castle.
Prince Christian, Ernst’s brother, was a witness at the intimate ceremony, alongside friend of the couple, Dina Amer, but their father – who shares the same name as his elder son – was conspicuously absent.
The 63-year-old, has reportedly refused to give the union his blessing – despite it being a year since Prince Ernst proposed to Ekaterina during a family holiday in Greece.
The older Prince is said to want properties and titles he gifted to his son signed back over into his possession, including the iconic Marienburg castle, where the wedding dinner will be held, German newspaper Handlesblatt reported.
If his son does not return the titles, Prince Ernst the elder will not attend the wedding on Saturday, it is claimed.
