PRINCESS ANNE was accused of snubbing Donald Trump and prompting Queen Elizabeth II to “scold her” but reporter Valentine Low has now exposed what happened as royals welcomed the US President to Buckingham Palace.
Princess Anne sparked an onslaught of comments on social media after a video from Buckingham Palace emerged allegedly showing Queen Elizabeth II scold her daughter for snubbing US President Donald Trump. The footage shows the Queen and Prince Charles lined up with other Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to welcome NATO leaders to Buckingham Palace while Princess Anne remains in the background. Twitter users suggested the Princess Royal had stayed behind to avoid shaking hands with the US President but The Times reporter Valentine Low took to social media to clarify why Anne did not greet President Trump.
Writing on Twitter, Ms Low said: “OK, here goes… Princess Anne: the truth. No, she didn’t snub the Trumps. And she wasn’t told off by the Queen.
“Instead the Queen, after greeting the Donald (and the Melania), turned to Anne to see who was next.
“But there wasn’t anyone waiting: Trump was the last leader to be received by the Queen. Anne raised her hands in the air, laughed and said: “It’s just me,” adding a moment later “and this lot” as she pointed to the members of the household behind her.”
Mr Low added: “This excellent bit of sleuthing comes from the very wonderful Laura Elston of the Press Association, who is as impartial a witness as you could hope for.”

In the video that sparked the snubbing speculation, Princess Anne can be seen turning around to point to Deputy Master of the Household Lt. Col. Anthony Charles Richards and Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel.
The Princess Royal was also not part of the official welcoming party so she stayed behind to allow for the smooth flow of the NATO leaders towards her mother and brother.
Anne also appeared in a second video filmed at the reception showing her chatting away with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and Boris Johnson as they discuss the performance of a fellow politician.
While the name of Mr Trump isn’t pronounced, the world leaders can be heard speaking about a politician holding a long impromptu speech, leading many to think they were speaking about the US President.

In the video, Mr Johnson can be heard saying to Mr Macron: “Is that why you were late?”
The Canadian Prime Minister can be seen intervening, saying: “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top!”.
The French President can then be heard speaking as he gestures animatedly, but his words are barely audible.
Mr Trudeau can later be heard once again, seemingly speaking about the same person the group was chatting earlier. He said: “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor”.
