A ROYAL insider has revealed how William and Harry’s time spent with Princess Diana was “more relaxed” compared to regular royal life.

Darren McGrady was personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Princess Diana, and Princes William and Harry for 15 years. In 1998, Mr McGrady moved to the US and has since written several best-selling books and told all about the culinary world of the royals.
In a video made by Delish, Mr McGrady cooked and went through the steps of cooking the brothers’ favourite dish – cottage pie – offering stories about the boys in their youth.
One anecdote revealed what the boys used to get up to when staying with Princess Diana at Kensington Palace, recalling how Diana wanted the boys to live normal lives, especially when it came to tea time and weekends.
He said: “When they stayed with Princess Diana at Kensington it was a lot more relaxed.
“The princess would let them eat dinner in front of the TV on a Saturday night.

“That was alway fun for them.”
He continued: “She wanted them to be royal princes but at the same time she wanted them to children too.
“I think it was probably a little bit more relaxed when they were with mum.”

Harry and William were just 12 and 15, respectively, at the time.
The brothers opened up about the tragic death of their mother in an ITV documentary in 2018.
In Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, the pair revealed that they hadn’t seen their mother for weeks, but were due to see her the day she died.
They were at Balmoral with their father, Prince Charles, at her time of death, along with her driver Henri Paul, and her companion, Dodi Fayed.

Mr McGrady shared several other insider stories about life at both Buckingham and Kensington Palace from his long tenure there.
Many of them, quite obviously, revolved around food.
One heartwarming memory he shared went: “I’d prepare this dish almost every time they came home.
“William and Harry were almost always in the kitchen, whether it was to find out what was for lunch, or to play hide and seek.

“They even came through just to chat.“Sometimes, they even came in to cook, which was a really worrying experience.”
He continued: “It was always fun having the boys in the kitchen.
“And, although it was a royal kitchen, they were still children, and just like normal children, running around the house having fun.”
The royal family has in recent weeks splintered with the news that Harry and Meghan Markle would step back from senior royal duties.

The feud between brothers became public following a bombshell ITV documentary last year, where Harry told journalists he and his brother were on “different paths”.
Yet, as Mr McGrady explained, the pair were for the most part of their childhood best friends and carefree, going on to share a touching memory of Diana and the boys during his time as chef.
He said: “I remember one time Diana came into the kitchen and the boys had just been chatting away, an the Princess said ‘you know, the boys are so different: William’s deep like his father, and Harry is an airhead like me’.”
