PRINCESS DIANA’s marriage to Prince Charles was at the forefront of media and public attention during the 15 years the two were together.
The marriage came to a bitter end in 1996 and one royal expert has revealed the heartbreaking question, Diana asked Charles. Writing in her book, ‘The Queen and Di: The Untold Story’, Ingrid Seward spoke of the moment the pair met for the first time following their separation. The two met in Kensington Palace in the first-floor drawing room Diana called the salon of her apartment.
Walking into the room, Diana allegedly asked Charles, “Why did this have to happen?”.
Away from the bitter end of the marriage, the pair wedded in 1981 in what was branded as the royal event of the century.
Watched by millions around the world their relationship began with worrying warning signs despite the joyous occasion of the event.
According to Ms Seward who spoke on ‘Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding’, some of Charles’ friends believed that this relationship could become an “absolute disaster”.

“She was like a high-school student and he was like a professor.”
Moreover, apparently, Charles had told friends that he was in a “confused and anxious state”.
Ms Seward added: “Prince Charles kept saying ‘I want to do the right thing by my country.

“‘I want to do the right thing by my family’.
“In his heart, I think he knew that they just had nothing in common.”
Charles, however, was not the only one who had second thoughts about the marriage.
Diana too had told her sisters that she may not be able to go through with the event.
