PRINCE HARRY was reportedly left devastated by an “unnecessary” decision made by Queen Elizabeth II, it has been revealed.
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, made the shock decision to relinquish their roles as senior members of the Royal Family in January this year. When the couple made the life-changing decision to live independently, Meghan and Harry gave up a lot. They were no longer allowed to use their HRH titles, had to close their popular Sussex Royal Instagram account and were forced to wave goodbye to the number of charities and organisations they had been so passionate about helping.
But one decision made by Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, left the Duke feeling heartbroken.
There were longstanding reports the couple were sad and disappointed by many of the Queen’s demands when it came to their royal futures.
However, a new book written about Harry and Meghan by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durant, claims it was one decision in particular which really hurt Harry.
Finding Freedom, which was written without the participation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, claims Prince Harry found it difficult to part with his military commitments.

The book reads: “If his grandmother’s validation of his experiences served as encouragement, the most demoralising aspect of the new deal was his being stripped of his honorary military appointments that had been awarded to him as a senior royal.
“As a retired serviceman, Harry would always be able to wear his medals.
“But no longer could he wear uniform as Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Force Commandant of the Royal Air Force Bas Honington, and honorary Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Navy’s Small Ships and Diving Operations.
“These roles had to come to an end.”

A source told the authors of Finding Freedom: “That’s been a tough pill to swallow, and the one that has been post painful to Meghan to witness him go through.
“It’s the one that has made Harry most emotional.”
Shortly after the decision was taken and the announcement made, Prince Harry was allowed to wear his uniform for the last time when he attended the Mountbatten Festival of Music.
As the Duke carried out his royal military duties for the last time, he was heard saying: “I’m devastated that I am having to stand down.”

Finding Freedom further claims Meghan spoke out about the decision to a friend, deeming it unfair.
She said: “It was so unnecessary. And it’s not just taking something away from him, it’s also that entire military veteran community.
“You can see how much he means to them, too. So why? The powers [of the institution] are fortunately greater than me.”
At the time of their decision to step down, a source said: “He told people he regretted having to stand down and pretty much said the decision had been forced on him.
“He is a genuine guy and you could see he was upset and emotional as this was one of the last times he would be in uniform among his men and women.”
During his speech at the Mountbatten Festival of Music, Harry said he was “devastated” at the decision.
The Duke, who has served in the military for 10 years, said: “I feel I’m letting people down, but I had no choice.
“I am so proud to have served as the Royal Marines Captain and am devastated that I am having to step down.”
