PRINCESS DIANA made a bombshell confession during a resurfaced interview which discussed her thoughts on becoming Queen in the Royal Family.

In the tell-all Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, Princess Diana admitted that she wasn’t daunted by royal responsibilities as Princess of Wales. “As for becoming Queen, it’s, it was never at the forefront of my mind,” she said. When Mr Bashir probed Princess Diana on whether she would ever become Queen, Diana said no. Instead, she said: “I don’t see myself being Queen of this country,” she said.

“I’d like to be a Queen of people’s hearts, in people’s hearts.”

This comment led to her being unofficially regarded as the “People’s Princess”.

The title was first coined by then Prime Minister Tony Blair.

It came in his public speech to the nation following Princess Diana’s tragic death.

He said: “She touched the lives of so many others in Britain and throughout the world with joy and with comfort.

“How many times shall we remember her in how many different ways – with the sick, the dying, with children, with the needy.

“People everywhere, not just here in Britain, kept faith with Princess Diana.

“They liked her, they loved her, they regarded her as one of the people.

“She was the People’s Princess and that is how she will stay, how she will remain in our hearts and our memories forever.”

The public was often vocal in their praise of Diana for her charity work and level of compassion for those around her.

She soon became the public’s favourite royal.

Her self-effacing character-led many to regard her in royal terms despite her split from Prince Charles.

Princess Diana died in a terrible car accident in the Post de l’Alma tunnel in Paris while the driver was fleeing paparazzi in 1997.
