The Duchess of Cambridge took the red carpet by storm last night as she joined her husband for a starry evening at the BAFTAs.

And it seems Kate may have looked to her sister-in-law for style cues, with her Alexander McQueen ensemble drawing striking similarities to one of Meghan’s most iconic looks.

Kate’s white toga-style gown featured a fitted bodice, cinched waist and flowing floor-length skirt, much like the Theia Couture dress the Duchess of Sussex wore in October to meet the King of Tonga.

Described as a ‘cap sleeve beaded silk satin column gown’, Meghan’s couture number is not available to buy, much like Kate’s bespoke McQueen ensemble.

It emerged last year that Theia designer Don O’Neill knew Meghan was pregnant before the official announcement, after Meghan’s personal stylist requested the gown be remade ‘with extra seam allowance’.

He told FEMAIL: ‘We knew immediately why this extra allowance was required, but Mum’s the word.’

The Duke and Duchess announced the pregnancy on their arrival in Sydney on 15 October, some two weeks after the alteration was requested.

It’s not the first time Kate has drawn inspiration from rule-breaker Meghan; fashion watchers have noticed her adopting trousers and brighter colours – and even ditching her trusty nude tights – since the Duchess of Sussex burst onto the royal scene.

Snubbing tweed dresses, pearls and sensible nude tights for vibrant hues, sleeveless dresses and sharply tailored trousers, the Duchess of Sussex has emerged as something of a royal rule breaker – and it seems her sister-in-law is taking note.

Once known for playing it safe, Kate has been experimenting with bright colours and fashion-forward silhouettes over the past year, seemingly inspired by Prince Harry’s wife.

From banana yellow to baggy flares, it appears Meghan’s most iconic outfits have inspired a major shift in the Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wardrobe.
