Sorry Prince Harry as Prince William will have to leave early on your wedding day
This is why Prince William will be forced to leave Harry and Meghan’s wedding early.
Harry and the US actress will tie the knot on the same day as the FA Cup Final in May
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their wedding date – and it’s bad news for football fans.
Harry and the US actress will tie the knot on the same day as the FA Cup Final in May.
And, remarkably, that means Aston Villa fan Prince William is set to race from Windsor to Wembley after the royal wedding so he can attend.
Famously, William is the president of the Football Association and routinely hands over the coveted trophy to the victorious team captain each year.
On May 19, 2018, though, William will jet off from the nuptials – despite he and Harry being incredibly close – so he can fulfil his duties.
Kensington Palace insists that there will not be an issue for Prince William, as they are making plans with the FA to ensure that he can attend both, reports the Mirror.
“We have not gone into the timing of the the wedding but made it clear that the wedding and the FA Cup final will not clash,” a short statement said.
There is likely to be plenty of time for Wills to make the 23-mile journey.
The royal wedding is set to take place in the morning, with the FA Cup final kicking off at 5:30 pm at the national stadium.
William, an Aston Villa fan, handed the trophy over to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-1 in the final last season.
The FA released a statement about the date clash when it became apparent.
“Everyone at The FA is delighted for HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the announcement of their wedding at Windsor Castle next year,” it read.
“Saturday 19 May promises to be a wonderful day such a special royal occasion being followed by English football’s showpiece event, the Emirates FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
“With millions coming together to watch both events at home and around the world, it will be a day to celebrate.”
Harry and Meghan, whose engagement was confirmed last month, are tying the knot at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Ms Markle is set to appear at a church with the Windsors at Sandringham on Christmas Day.
