SOPHIE, the Countess of Wessex, has a surprising friendship with one particular member of the Royal Family, it has been claimed.
Sophie, who is the youngest of the Queen’s children in law, is said to be popular with Her Majesty. This is reportedly because the wife of Prince Edward is “dedicated”. A source told The Sun: “Sophie’s a long-term favourite of the queen and has been singled out as a person the Palace would like to help ease the burden.”
An aide revealed to the Sun in September, the Queen is “mindful that Sophie’s marriage has survived where her other children’s relationships have failed.
“And she knows that is in no small way down to Sophie’s dedication.
“She is aware, as is Edward’s mother, what a tricky creature he can be. And not only has Sophie flourished as a dedicated, albeit still relatively junior member of the royal family, she has brought up two teenagers who are well-balanced, sporty, amusing and delightful.”
Now 55, she married Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex in 1999.

According to E Online, Sophie and Edward first crossed paths when Edward was dating a friend of hers.
Upon the announcement of their engagement, Sophie told the BBC: “It is slightly nerve-racking in many ways.
“But I am ready for it now and I am fully aware of the responsibilities.”
Since then many sources have spoken of the close friendship that the Queen and Sophie share.

Due to the divorces of Charles, Prince of Wales and Andrew, Duke of York, for six years, Sophie was the Queen’s only daughter-in-law.
That changed when Charles re-married to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
In 2003, Edward and Sophie would have their first child, daughter Lady Louise Windsor.
Earlier in 2001, Sophie landed herself in controversial territory.

She told an undercover News Of The World reporter posing as an international business that her PR firm would help the businessman due to her status in the royal family.
Sophie also reportedly blasted government figures.
Buckingham Palace stood up for Sophie saying: “The Countess of Wessex, who is trying to pursue her own career, is obviously vulnerable to set-ups such as this.”
