Sarah Ferguson back in the Firm after Eugenie’s Royal Wedding
SARAH Ferguson’s days of being cast away as a royal outsider appear to be over after she has been rumoured to be back in the Firm following the success of daughter Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding to wine merchant Jack Brooksbank.
Eugenie’s recent royal wedding appears to have healed the rift between the mother-of-two and the most senior royals – particularly Prince Philip, her former father-in-law.
The official wedding portrait from the much-anticipated nuptials showed the flame-haired 59-year-old pictured alongside the Duke of Edinburgh for the first time in 20 years.
Sarah, Duchess of York, known as Fergie, found herself at the centre of a royal scandal when photos of her getting her toes sucked by her American lover made the national press.
Philip was said to have been so enraged, he said he could not stand to be in the same room as the duchess.
Other signs she could have been welcomed back into the Royal Family is her invite to the Queen’s champagne reception after Eugenie’s wedding.
In the run-up to Eugenie’s Windsor wedding, the Duchess of York also spent her third summer in a row holidaying at the Queen’s Balmoral residence, the very location she was at when news of the toe-sucking scandal broke.
She was also invited to Royal Ascot this year, where she took her place proudly on the Queen’s viewing stand.
Speaking of the time she met the Queen before she and ex-husband Prince Andrew divorced in 1996, she said: “When I met Her Majesty about it, she asked, ‘What do you require, Sarah?’ and I said, ‘Your friendship’, which I think amazed her because everyone said I would demand a big settlement.
“But I wanted to be able to say, ‘Her Majesty is my friend’; not fight her nor have lawyers saying, ‘Look, she is greedy.’ I left my marriage knowing I’d have to work. I have.”
The Duke and Duchess of York, who still remain close friends, most recently putting on a united front at their daughter Eugenie’s wedding on 12 October.
The Mother of the Bride wore a green knee-length dress for the special day, which was by the local Windsor company Emma Louise Design.
She teamed the outfit with a matching wide-brimmed hat and nude heels and a tan coloured Manolo Blahnik bag, which her mother Susan Barrantes had carried at Sarah’s own wedding.
The duchess recently opened up about relationships with her “boyfriends” in an emotional interview where she admitted her ex-husband Prince Andrew is still her “soul mate”.
She fondly referred to the father of her two daughters’ as her “bestest friend” as she opened up about the changes in their relationships following their 1996 divorce.
The mother-of-two also revealed how the pair still maintain the vows they said to one another when they tied the knot for their Royal Wedding on July 23 1986 in Westminster Abbey.
She told US magazine Harper Bazaar: “He’s a great man and a first-rate father and the bestest friend.
“I love him. He’s my soulmate. It’s actually what we said in front of God at the altar: we honour and respect each other until death do us part.
