Kate’s first secondary school was Downe House, a private girls’ boarding school in Berkshire but she was so terribly bullied there that she quit the school after only two terms.
Lady Gabriella Windsor, who is a year older than the Duchess, also attended the school which educates girls from the age of 11 to 18.
Writing in his 2011 book ‘William and Catherine, royal author Andrew Morton recalled a friend and fellow pupil telling him: “Kate was not the most confident girl and it was always going to be tricky for her even though she was good at sports.
“Downe House is a great school but it is a fighting school.
“She was bullied.”

Because of the bullying, Kate made the move to Marlborough College, where Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were also educated.
However, she also suffered some indignities at her new school, according to Mr Morton.
He writes: “Her treatment at the former boys-only school seems even more disrespectful.”
A fellow Marlborough pupil told him: “You can’t be precious or a perfectionist when you’re on a cross-country run and a boy yanks your games skirt off for a dare. You just keep running.”
Mr Morton also describes how the “senior boys, as apparently had become tradition, held up napkins in the school dining room where the new girl was marked out of ten”.
The Duchess also gained a a risqué nickname at the school, becoming known as “Kate Middlebum”.
Her friend explained to writer Elizabeth Sanderson: “Our room faced on to the boy’s boarding house.
“We’d take turns to show our bare bums to the gym to see if they could guess who they belonged to.
“Catherine kind of got addicted to it.”
The Duchess of Cambridge is expected to be a guest at Saturday’s royal wedding, alongside the Queen.
Although Her Majesty did not attend the wedding of Lady Gabriella’s brother in 2009, the Palace has confirmed she will be in attendance this weekend.
Kate is thought to be set to accompany the Queen, although Prince William is likely to be away fulfilling his duties for Saturday’s FA Cup Final.
Prince William and Prince Harry grew up alongside Lady Gabriella and her brother Lord Freddie at Kensington Palace.
However their mothers, Princess Diana and Princess Michael of Kent, fanously had a frosty relationship, resulting in a “nasty and bitter” feud.
