KATE, Duchess of Cambridge – who turned 38 yesterday – was forced to spend her birthday away from her husband Prince William last year, according to reports.
Kate celebrated her 38th birthday this week, but unfortunately, it was overshadowed by a shocking announcement made only the night before. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stunned royal audiences – and the Royal Family itself – when they announced they intend to “step back” from their roles as senior royals over the following year, in a quest to become financially independent. The Queen was left “disappointed” at their declaration, especially as discussions regarding their future roles within the monarchy were “still at an early stage”, according to Buckingham Palace.
Despite it being her own birthday, Kate put on a united front with William and is thought to have attended crisis talks between all the royal households.
However, this is not the first time royal duty has interrupted Kate’s birthday – last year, it even forced the Duchess of Cambridge to spend the day away from her husband.
As Catriona Harvey-Jenner revealed in Cosmopolitan, “for at least part of the day” Kate did not celebrate her 37th birthday with William.

She wrote: “While Kate may or may not be cracking open a bottle of champers over a boozy lunch, Prince William will be at work.
“Kensington Palace confirmed last week that William is visiting the London Air Ambulance today, ironically to celebrate 30 years of its existence.
“To be fair, I doubt Kate will have a problem with William’s alternative commitment on her birthday.
“Considering the Prince served as an air ambulance pilot for years, and it provides such an important service, he’s probably got the green light to go and enjoy himself at the official engagement.”

While this year was likely to be a more difficult birthday amid Harry and Meghan’s announcement, many members of the Royal Family still honoured the Duchess of Cambridge through social media.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex commented on Kensington’s Instagram post of previously-unseen photo of Kate, saying: “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today!”
Clarence House, which represents Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, posted four photos of Kate to celebrate her 38th birthday.

The Royal Family official account – primarily representing the Queen and Prince Philip – also posted a slideshow of Kate.
Three out of the four images showed Kate smiling next to the Queen on special royal occasions.
However, Kate’s family were pictured driving into Kensington Palace to celebrate the Duchess of Cambridge’s 38th year.

Her father Michael Middleton was photographed arriving in the grounds of her home, most likely to spend the day with Kate and William’s children – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and 20-month-old Prince Louis.
Last weekend, Kate and William also had an early celebration for her birthday in their country home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, when they continued their annual tradition of inviting their closest friends for a weekend in the country.
Apparently the Duchess of Cambridge also received a surprising array of gifts for her birthday, including a cruelty free handbag made with “apple leather” from PETA, the animal rights’ organisation.
