ROYAL SNUB: William and Kate REFUSE invitation to spend holiday with Prince Charles
THE DUKE and Duchess of Cambridge refused an invitation to spend quality time with Prince Charles at the Castle of Mey, the late Queen mother’s remote home in Caithness, Scotland.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle however accepted the invite and spent a week with the Prince of Wales in the Royal home over the summer, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The reason William and Kate declined the invitation is not known.
However, despite this snub from his older son, Charles described the week with Harry and Meghan as “joyous”.
He told friends he was “tickled pink” when they confirmed they would join him in Scotland.
The Royals reportedly went on coastal walks and went bird-spotting together.
A Royal insider said: “I think it’s fair to say that Meghan has brought Harry and Charles closer, and Charles is thrilled to have a new daughter-in-law.”
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was not present during his family bonding time as she was having a “bucket-and-spade” holiday with her own children and grandchildren.
The insider said: “Camilla wasn’t there, so I think that made it even more special for Charles.”
The Prince of Wales’ is said to be bonding very well with the Duchess of Sussex.
For example, he recognises that they have both been through family fall-outs in a very public way, with members of Meghan’s family repeatedly criticising her before and after her wedding.
One source told the Mail on Sunday: “Because there’s been bad behaviour that’s caused problems in his family, Charles understands how difficult it must be for Meghan.
“And it has endeared her to him even more.”
Her father-in-law even walked Meghan down the aisle in the place of her absent father back in May.
Camilla is also fond of the new member of the family and apparently goes out of her way to make Meghan feel welcome.
The Duchess of Cornwall identifies with Meghan “not least because both of them joined the Royal family from the outside”.
She reportedly goes out of her way to spend time with her.
