AN AMERICAN singer has been criticised for breaking royal protocol during a meeting with Prince Harry at the Royal Albert Hall.
The meeting came during the Royal Variety Performance in 2015, when Kacey Musgraves, snubbed a handshake with the prince, opting instead for a high-five. The 31-year-old told Access Hollywood about the reactions that followed after she slapped Harry’s royal hand.
She said: “Apparently afterwards, the guy that works at the label was like, ‘No, no, no.’
“He was like, ‘I can’t believe you gave him a high-five. That’s just unbelievable.”
“He’s like, ‘No, there’s a way to address the royal family, and a high-five, going up top is not the way.'”
The singer, however, claims she was unphased by the criticism.

She explained: “I was like, ‘I didn’t know. He went in for it, so whatever.’”
Later on, the Grammy winner discovered she was the first person ever to publicly high-five a member of the royal family.
In 2018, on this, she told the BBC: “Surely someone else out there is going for a high-five!”
Harry is no stranger to breaking protocol, with it recently being revealed that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, planned on spending Thanksgiving and Christmas in the US with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

More controversial were reports form royal sources that claimed the Queen was in the dark about these plans, until he called her at Buckingham Palace earlier this month to decline her open invite to festive celebrations.
Buckingham Palace announced, in a statement to Harpers Bazaar’s royal correspondent Omid Scobie: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, the couple will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria.”
Royal experts claim the decision to head across the atlantic for the celebrations confirm speculation that a deep rift has opened between the family.

Royal expert and Phil Dampier told MailOnline: “It’s very hard to see this as anything other than a snub to the Queen and the rest of the royal family.
“If Harry and Meghan wanted to heal the divisions they should have turned up at Sandringham.
“It’s a great shame but there seems to be a problem which is getting worse, not better.”
He added: “I don’t buy it’s the turn of Meghan to spend Christmas with her family.

“She’s only close to her mother and they will see plenty of her during their six-week break.
“I’m sure that the Queen would be happy to invite Doria to Sandringham to join them.”
It has also been reported that Meghan is very conscious of the fact that she is being “pitted against” Kate Middleton, Harry’s sister-in-law, despite their being very two different people.
An insider source told People that Meghan and Kate are on “different paths”. They said: “Meghan is very aware that Kate will be queen; their roles are very clear.

“Meghan doesn’t fit the mould while Kate was groomed for this; what’s challenging is when they are pitted against each other – that’s been challenging to both of them, “Meghan has her life, Kate has hers.”
However, the source claimed that the two didn’t plan on competing with each other, and explained the pair are focused on their families and not on battling it out with one another.
