KATE MIDDLETON “was determined not to upstage Meghan Markle” at the christening of the Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie, amid claims the Duchess of Cambridge is “devastated” as a result of the bombshell book regarding the former US actress.

The Royal Family has been rocked in recent weeks following the imminent publication of ‘Finding Freedom’, a biography written by journalists Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie. Although it is not released until mid-August, passages are beginning to emerge regarding some of the House of Windsor’s inner workings, and particularly the relationships between Meghan and husband Prince Harry, and their in-laws Kate Middleton and Prince William. Among the allegations include claims of falling-out between brothers William and Harry, which the book claims came due to Meghan branding her husband’s older brother a “snob”.

Yet, there were reports of a spat between all four members of the Royal Family, with many insiders exposing a major rift between the Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge.

With the release of the book coming within days, experts have explained that Kate will be furious, while conversations between Harry and William are said to now be “stilted and difficult”.

According to New Idea, royal author Andrew Morton said Kate will be “devastated” with the comments in the book.

He added: “There’s no doubt the rift between Harry and William has deeply affected Kate. It upsets her.”

The row reportedly emerged before Meghan was due to give birth to her and Harry’s first son Archie.

But in a show of solidarity to her in-law on her special day, Kate was “determined to not upstage” Meghan as photographs of the christening were released to the public.

Body language expert Judi James revealed some of the secrets behind the photographs after they were handed out following the christening last year.

She said: “With a very relaxed and jolly-looking Camilla down one end of this pose, Kate sits at the other looking oddly self-diminished and prim, with her arms pulled into her torso and a part-smile on her face.

“Given all the rift rumours the rather ‘ready to flee’ tension in her pose could be seen as awkwardness but it could also show a desire to lower her own status signals and not upstage the happy couple.”

Ms James also noted how Kate wasn’t the only person to stand out in the adorable images, with husband William also looking to be in a “self-protective barrier pose”.

She added: “The formal pose shows all the royals looking relaxed and happy apart from a rather over-formal William in a self-protective barrier pose and Kate looking as though she’s determined to not upstage the happy couple and their first baby.

“William’s pose behind her looks harder to fathom out as it seems to show the prince in nightclub bouncer mode.

“The fig-leaf hand gesture, head tilt and rather evaluating facial expression and knowing smile all bear the hallmarks of a man who won’t let you into the venue until you produce some ID.”

It did not dispel reports of a rift between the two, and the upcoming biography – which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claim to have had no involvement in – could potentially open up more questions on their relationship.
