PRINCE WILLIAM was dubbed a “scallywag” after disappearing when he was younger, leaving Palace staff terrified and his mother, Princess Diana, very angry, unearthed reports claim.
Both Princes William and Harry reportedly had a happy childhood – mainly thanks to their mother, the late Princess Diana. The Princess of Wales’ down-to-earth parenting and occasional “tough love” turned her sons into the well-rounded royals they are today, many royal experts claim. While Prince Charles was in charge of the more traditional aspects of their young lives, such as teaching them to shoot, fish and hunt, Diana wanted them to grow up without a sense of entitlement.
She had them stand in line for fast food, and even took them to one of Britain’s most famous amusement parks.
According to multiple reports, though, the Princess was not only fun as was also incredibly strict with her children.
According to a 1986 report by the Daily Mirror, a young Prince William went missing while playing at his family residence, Highgrove House, leaving Palace staff “terrified” and his mother “upset”.
The report reads: “Amid mounting panic the search was stepped up.

“Until eventually the ‘scallywag’ Prince was discovered in the larger happily drinking from an enormous bottle of cherry pop, much of which he had spilled over himself.
“Upset as she was, Diana still had the presence of mind to read the bottle label and to be schooled by the additive ingredients.
“That is why ever since that day fizzy pop drinks have been banned for her children.”
A few years later, the Daily Express also reported how the Princess of Wales reprimanded a wilful William at his school on sports day, after the future King misbehaved.

Her temper reportedly snapped when an eight-year-old William ran away as she was about to leave after the events had ended.
Royal correspondent Ashley Walton wrote in 1990: “Her temper snapped when he ran away as she was about to leave after the events had ended.
“The seven-year-old Prince set off across a field to play with his sirens from London’s Wetherby School.
“Diana – clearly angry – dashed 100 yards, caught him by the arm and gave him a firm smack on the bottom.

“William burst into tears.
“He was pushed back into the back of the royal car after a good telling off and driven back to Kensington Palace.”
According to the same report, Princess Anne did the same thing when she publicly smacked her son, Peter, then seven, on the bottom at the Badminton Horse Trials.
Diana reportedly sacked William and Harry’s first nanny, Barbara Barnes, because she was too soft on him.
