PRINCE Harry only found out about Prince Charles’ relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles after it was discussed on a TV news debate, according to a royal insider.
Prince Harry and Prince William have spoken publicly about their love for their stepmother the Duchess of Cornwall, and they appear as a happy and smiling extended family in Prince Charles’ 70th birthday photos released last month. The Prince of Wales met Camilla in the 1970s and they would go on to wed in 2005, in a move that signalled her acceptance into the royal family. However, during the young princes’ childhoods, they were careful to keep their relationship under wraps.
2017 Amazon Prime documentary “Diana: The Woman Inside” hears from friends and former household members of the late Princess of Wales.
Diana’s friend Simone Simmons says that she was on the phone with the People’s Princess when she was watching the evening news with Prince William and Prince Harry.
This was after the royal couple split in 1996, following the Queen’s urging them to make the divorce final after their 1992 separation.
“[Diana] phoned me up and said ‘Are you watching this on TV? Trevor McDonald, The Monarchy Debate?’” says Simmons.
She claims the Princess of Wales egged her friends on to phone into the TV debate to say they wanted to abolish the monarchy.
William and Harry were not interested in getting involved in the conversation, according to Simmons.
“Until the time came when Trevor McDonald said: “What does the public think? Will Camilla ever be Queen?’”
“Harry piped up: ‘Who’s Camilla?’”
“Then William said: ‘Don’t you know?’”
“Diana said: ‘Hold on a minute. Harry, it’s time for bed. Come on!’”
Princess Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe goes on to explain how coverage of Diana as “obsessed” and “paranoid” about Camilla was unfair.
Wharfe says he saw behind the scenes and “knew these were false statements”.
“She was right from day one,” he says.
