REVEALED: Meghan Markle’s ‘SURREAL’ and ‘SWEET’ meeting with Queen Elizabeth
MEGHAN MARKLE has revealed the “incredibly surreal” and “sweet” meeting she had with Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace when the monarch helped her pick out her wedding tiara.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke about their Royal wedding in an interview to be played on an audio guide for a Royal exhibition.
Visitors will be able to see Meghan’s stunning Givenchy wedding dress and its five metre veil up close in an exhibition entitled, ‘A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’.
Meghan’s dress stands next to Prince Harry’s frock coat uniform, which was made by master tailors on Saville Row.
The Duchess’ tiara will also be on display, and in an exclusive recording Meghan disclosed the story of how she chose the stunning headpiece, the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau.
The Queen lent the California native the tiara to wear on her wedding day, which was originally made in 1932 for the Queen’s grandmother, Queen Mary.
The small tiara is made of diamonds and platinum in 11 sections, with interlaced ovals.
The centrepiece is detachable as the rest of the bandeau was built around it.
The Duchess revealed Prince Harry accompanied her to Buckingham Palace to choose the jewellery, even though her husband admitted he “should have not been there”.
The former Suits actress explained in the recording: “When it came to the tiara on the day, I was very fortunate to be able to choose this gorgeous art deco style bandeau tiara.
“Harry and I had gone to Buckingham Palace to meet with her Majesty the Queen to select one of the options that were there, which was an incredibly surreal day as you can imagine.”
Prince Harry also recalled the moment: “It’s every girl’s dream to be able to try on a tiara.
“Funnily enough, it was the one that suited the best, the one that looked the best on you without question.
I shouldn’t have really been there – but an incredible loan by my grandmother.
The outfits and the headpiece will be exhibited alongside Prince George’s pageboy outfit and Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
‘A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ opens on Friday and runs at Windsor Castle until January.
The exhibition will then move to the Palace of Holyroodhouse from June 14 to October 6, 2019.
