Queen is STEPPING DOWN and Prince Charles to be KING starting from TODAY

Prince Charles ‘transition to King starts TODAY’ as Queen STEPS DOWN from duty

The QUEEN is stepping down from a big Royal duty today as Prince Charles “begins” his journey to becoming King, Daily Star Online can reveal.

Her Majesty will pull out of a major role this morning at the Remembrance Sunday service as Charles takes over the reins.

After decades of leading Britain’s Poppy Day commemorations, the Queen will not be laying a wreath at the Cenotaph in London’s Whitehall.

Instead she will install her son – the Heir to the throne – to lay the wreath, while the Queen retires to a balcony to watch the proceedings.

A Royal source told Daily Star Online this will mark the beginning of Charles’ transition from Prince of Wales to King.

“This is the start of them (Queen and Prince Philip) doing less milestones in public,” the source told us.

“You will see Her Majesty doing less investitures and passing them on to Prince Charles, as well as Princess Anne and the Duke of Cambridge.”

The 91-year-old Monarchy will be joined by husband Philip – who will break out of retirement for the event – on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said at the time this move was announced: “The Queen wishes to be alongside the Duke of Edinburgh and he will be on the balcony.”

This comes a week before the Queen and Philip will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary, when – in another bold move – they will choose not to mark it in public.

Our Royal source told Daily Star Online this is also part of the transition, and that he believes the Queen will, when she is 95, request for Charles to become King in all but name.

He said Her Majesty held formal talks in the summer over making Charles a Prince Regent – which would see him take over the reins.

However, if this happens the Queen would still remain head of state and would not be abdicating. She would just effectively take a big step back.

When Daily Star Online put this to Clarence House – where Charles lives – at the time the source made this claim, a spokeswoman said: “On the record we are not commenting.”

Meanwhile a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “We have absolutely no comment.”
