Royal family experts have said that Elizabeth’s firm favourite is her younger son.
In the eyes of the monarch, despite Andrew’s controversies that include being branded “Air Miles Andy”, he can do no wrong.
It is claimed the Queen has a much closer relationship with Andrew in a new Channel 5 documentary, The Royal Family At War.
Royal author, Katie Nicholl, told the documentary: “There is a real tension between Charles and Andrew.
“Andrew has a very different relationship with his mother and the Queen was much more hands on.”
Journalist Penny Junor said: “I think the Queen has always had a bit of a blindspot when it comes to Prince Andrew.”
It is said in the documentary that Charles feels his younger brother has stained the image of the royals with his controversies including his friendship to disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
CNN royal commentator, Victoria Arbiter, said: “There probably has been occasions where Prince Charles has considered Andrew to be a bit of a liability to the royal family.
“That image of Prince Andrew being the playboy at large rankles Prince Charles. He finds it embarrassing.
“Charles does not want to be responsible for ruining the queen’s legacy.”
It has also been claimed in the documentary that Princess Margaret and Diana didn’t get on.
Margaret didn’t like the way that Diana stole her role as the glamorous royal, says the Princess’ butler Paul Burrel.
He said: “Princess Margaret was not a fan of Princess Diana’s because Margaret was the film star, a Diana of her day, and then along comes Diana usurps her.”
Royal biographer Andrew Morton added: “Princess Margaret would turn over any magazine that had Diana on the cover.
“She told staff not to talk to anybody from Diana’s department, it was a cold war.”
A Royal Family spokesperson made no comment on the documentary’s claims.
