Princess Leonor makes FIRST speech – and father King Felipe’s reaction is HEARTWARMING

PRINCESS Leonor, who is only 13 years old, gave her first public speech today as her father, King Felipe, watched his daughter proudly in a heartwarming scene.

Princess Leonor, who is the heir to Spain’s throne, confidently read out the 169 articles of Spain’s Carta Magna in an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the constitution.

She delivered her speech just after her father, King Felipe, read the law’s preamble.

His eldest daughter, Leonor, appeared slightly nervous before stepping on stage, but soon relaxed after she joined her father, who stood by her side.

King Felipe gave Leonor a reassuring pat on her back, before she began reading her script.

Leonor gracefully fulfilled her role for the day, confidently reading Spain’s Carta Magna in front of a packed audience of government officials at the city’s Cervantes Institute.

Her mother, Queen Letizia and younger sister, Princess Sofia were sat in the audience to support their family.

Leonor donned a flowing teal blue dress with a Peter Pan collar and matching Mary Janes shoes, while sister Sofia wore a soft pink dress underneath a bright red coat and the same Mary Janes shoes in maroon red.

Mother Queen Letizia looked dazzling in a fitted blue tweet jacket and matching skirt with floral detailing, finishing off her look with a pair of blue suede heels.

Leonor was praised for delivering the speech, and officials present for the event said she spoke in a “firm voice”.

The young royal beamed widely after she finished her address, and received a warm embrace from her proud father, King Felipe.

He escorted Leonor back to her seat, and the royal was met with a round of applause by the audience.

King Felipe was also 13 when he made his first speech as a royal, in 1981.

Spain’s constitution was approved by the Spanish Parliament on 31 October 1978, and is the democratic law the country abides since the death of dictator Francisco Franco in 1975.

Leonor and her sister, Sofia, have made numerous public appearances in recent months – but Sofia has yet to have made her first public speech debut.
