PRINCESS DIANA’S affectionate name for The Queen has been revealed as she joins several royals who describe her majesty with a moniker.

Princess Diana had a close relationship with Queen Elizabeth II, even after her divorce to Prince Charles. Several royals have a nickname for Her Majesty when they are not in public. Prince William and Prince Harry privately referred to the Queen as Granny, yet in public, the official line is Her Majesty.

Her great-grandchildren call her Gan-Gan.

However, it has been revealed even Diana recognised her close relationship with The Queen with a nickname of her own.

It has been said that Diana referred to Charles’ mother as Mama, a nickname also used by The Queen’s other daughters-in-law in private company.

Sophie Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward’s wife, adopts the same moniker for the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge uses the nickname mama as well.

It is thought that Meghan would have adopted a similar line with her husband’s grandmother.

However, the Duchess is yet to use the term publicly when talking to The Queen.

The royal family has a history of adopting adorable nicknames as many of the senior royals use nicknames for each other.

Prince Harry has nicknames for his fellow royals, he refers to his wife as ‘Meg’, whilst shortening the Duchess of Cambridge’s name to ‘Cath’.

Prince William also has a nickname for the mother of three.

He refers to Kate as ‘babe’ whilst the Duchess of Cambridge calls her husband ‘darling’.

The Cambridge’s children also have cute monikers.

Prince George is known as PG, whilst his sister, Princess Charlotte, is often called ‘poppet’.

The children are said to refer to their dad similarly.

The Cambridge youngsters call their dad ‘pops’.

Fiona Sturgess, a fan of the royals, revealed to reporters how the family use the nickname.

The Duchess of Cambridge is said to have used the same nickname to describe the Queen in private.

She told reporters: “Kate said that William was playing football with the children last night and one of them said, I think it was George, “Are you playing football tomorrow, Pops?”

Prince William also revealed in 2007 that his mother had a nickname for him.

William revealed Diana referred to the Prince as ‘wombat.’

He said: “I can’t get rid of it now. It began when I was two.”
