PRINCESS DIANA paved the way for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in the US thanks to her connections and the love royal fans across the pond felt for her, an Anglo-American author told Express.co.uk.
Late Princess Diana had many friends and connections in the US, which helped Americans get to know the Royal Family and “fall in love” with its members, according to the creator and writer of Royalty. Melanie Greene, who has created a series of upcoming children books and an animated show called Royalty, heavily inspired by Meghan and Prince Harry’s love story, said Americans “have a strong love for Diana”. This affection for the People’s Princess “naturally” also fell onto her children, Prince William and Prince Harry, and their families.
Ms Greene told Express.co.uk: “In America we really have a strong love for Princess Diana.
“I would even say we have a deeper love for Diana here than in England.
“Diana was often in the US, many of her friends were in the entertainment industry and based in America.
“Just think about Elton John – but she also had the chance to meet Michael Jackson, Liz Taylor and so many other celebrities.

“By seeing the princess with them, American started to get to know the British Royal Family and have a good feeling about it.
“And they naturally fell in love with her children.”
Princess Diana visited New York just two months before dying in a tragic car accident on August 31 1997.
On June 18, the People’s Princess walked hand-in-hand with Mother Teresa thorough the streets of the Bronx.

According to reports at the time, the nun and missionary blessed the princess during their 40-minute meeting at the White House with the then First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Four days later, Diana attended a gala party in the city to launch an auction held at Christie’s of some of her most iconic dresses.
According to the New York Times, on a single night Princess Diana brought in £2.49million ($3.25m) for 79 cocktail and evening dresses, an average of more than £31,450 ($41,000) per piece of clothing.
Among them, there was a dress she wore when she danced at the White House with John Travolta, sold for £172,980 ($222,500).

Princess Diana, who was at that point patron of 119 charities, raised that money to help fight AIDS and breast cancer.
As the love for Princess Diana was poured onto their children by American royal fans, Ms Greene explained, they were over the moon to learn Harry had fallen in love with a US citizen.
She continued: “For harry to pick up an American it was fabulous.
“There is great admiration for Meghan, we are very, very proud of her, we all are.
“I have family on both sides of the pond so the Royal Family is not new to me, I can wave the pros and cons of it, but I can say that people in America really admire her.

“They really respect her and are so proud of her, they support her, which is important because she is having a lot of daggers thrown at her, but she is tough, she is going to be all right.
“And she has a great protector too!”
Mrs Greene’s series of book and animated TV show is a “thank you” to Prince Harry and Meghan, two members of the Royal Family she sees as role models for their desire to do good and be simply good people and good parents.

She said: “This series is my way to say thank you, we celebrate you.
“They achieved the goals they wanted to achieve.
“They want to live their lives and just be people.
“So we are reaching out to them and saying thank you.”
