PRINCE GEORGE started his second year of school on Thursday and will undertake a term full of new lessons and experiences. But what is the surprising way Prince George takes after Princess Diana?
Princess Diana died in 1997 after a car crash in Paris, France, leaving behind her young sons, Prince William, 15, and Prince Harry, 12. During her royal life, she spent time working with charities and advocating for people affected by cancer among other things. But behind the scenes, Princess Diana had one hobby she adored, which grandson Prince George will soon begin to learn too.
Princess Diana was reported to adore ballet and was taught by dance coach and choreographer Anne Allan.
Ms Allan said Diana first approached her for lessons in 1981 when she was an instructor at the English National Ballet.
She explained how dance was a great stress reliever for Diana and helped the Princess cope with her turbulent marriage to Prince Charles.
Ms Allan said: “When I first met her you could see that there was a huge shyness. But over time as we went through our dance class realised just how much dance meant to her.

“She had dance in her soul. I realised the pure enjoyment that it gave her. She loved the freeness of being able to move and dance.
“She loved it. I could see it helped to alleviate her emotional life. That was hard for her at that time.”
Princess Diana also undertook a duet with famous ballet dancer Wayne Sleep at the Royal Opera House in 1985.
Mr Sleep told The Guardian the dance began as Diana’s idea, with the Princess of Wales asking if he could help her surprise supporters of the Royal Ballet— in particular, her husband, Prince Charles — by taking to the stage herself.

Mr Sleep said: “We met in a rehearsal studio in west London. She was in leg-warmers and a leotard.
“My first thought was, she’s too tall to dance with me, I’ll be a laughing stock: I’m 5ft 2in and she’s 5ft 11in.
“But I soon realised she had a good sense of humour, and that we could have some fun with our height difference.
“She’d already decided on the music: Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl.’”
The choreography reportedly included “jazz, ballet, even a kick line,” and told Mr Sleep: “Now I understand the buzz you get from performing.”

In his second year at Thomas’s in Battersea Prince George will have ballet lessons – in what may be a nod to his late-grandmother.
A source told The Sun six-year-old George will be at the dance studio once a week for a 35-minute ballet class.
Prince William told finalists of the BBC Radio 1’s Teen Hero awards that George is a keen dancer like Princess Diana and has been loving his ballet lessons at school.
As described on Thomas’s website, the school’s ballet lessons are taken from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus and are purposefully designed to build “physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality, using a range of movements and musical styles.”
