PRINCESS Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles may have ended many years ago, but details about the royal marriage are still discussed to this day, including the difficult time Diana had after the engagement.

It seems Charles was always in love with Camilla Parker Bowles. However, when he and Diana first began spending time together, there did seem to be an attraction. However, this didn’t stop Charles giving Diana the silent treatment early on in their relationship.
In Diana’s recording to biographer Andrew Morton, she revealed that she had been invited to spend a few nights at Petworth, where the prince was staying.
She said Charles was “all over me again, and it was very strange.”
The two were spending time together, at this point. However, things didn’t seem serious to the Princess.
She added: “The next minute he leapt on me practically, and I thought this was very strange, too.”

The princess later revealed Charles proposed to her soon after, and she laughed, thinking he couldn’t be serious.
However, despite things starting off quickly, things soon slowed down between Charles and Diana.
Two days after their engagement, Diana went to Australia with her mother for three weeks to “settle down” and prepare for the wedding.
Diana then revealed in her recordings that she didn’t speak to Charles once while she was away.

“I pined for him but he never rang me up,” she said.
“I thought that was very strange, and whenever I rang him, he was out, and he never rang me back.”
Diana said she gave him the benefit of the doubt, since he was likely busy.
However, she knew something wasn’t right.

In her recording, Diana said she was “still too immature to understand all the messages coming my way” as the reason she didn’t read between the lines from the start.
Diana noted that she and Charles often fought about his relationship with Camilla.
However, she never broke off the engagement, despite wanting to.
The two were married for 15 years before finalising their divorce in 1996.

Princess Diana was known for being incredibly candid in interviews and even gave an answer on whether William should be King instead of Charles.
During her November 1995 interview with BBC1’s Panorama, Diana was asked by journalist Martin Bashir who she thinks should take the throne.
He questioned: “Do you think it would make more sense in the light of the marital difficulties that you and the Prince of Wales have had, if the position of monarch passed directly to your son Prince William?”
Princess Diana replied: “Well, then you have to see that William’s very young at the moment, so do you want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age?

“So I can’t answer that question.”
Mr Bashir pressed the princess further on the topic.
He asked: “Would it be your wish that when Prince William comes of age that he were to succeed the queen rather than the current Prince of Wales?”
Diana said: “My wish is that my husband finds peace of mind, and from that follows others things, yes.”
