Princess Diana was married to Prince Charles for 11 years but in an interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, she revealed the reason why she would never be Queen. Mr Bashir asked: “Do you think you’ll ever be Queen?” Diana responded immediately with, “no, I don’t”.
She continued: “I’d like to be a queen of people’s hearts – in people’s hearts – but I don’t see myself being Queen of this country.
“I don’t think many people will want me to be Queen.
“Actually, when I say people, I mean the establishment that I married into because they have decided that I’m a non-starter.”
She revealed that the main reason she would never be accepted by the royal family is because she does not follow a “rule book” and “leads from the heart not the head”.

However, she said although she has gotten into trouble for her behaviour, she believed someone had to “go out there and love people and show it.”
She also told Mr Bashir that the royal household saw her as a “threat”.
She continued: “They see me as a threat of some kind and I’m here to do good.
“I’m not a destructive person.”

Diana explained that the reason why they see her as a threat is because she is a string woman in history.
She said: “I think every strong woman in history has had to walk down a similar path.
“And I think it’s the strength that causes the confusion and the fear.
“Why is she strong? Where does she get it from? Where is she taking it? Where is she going to use it? Why do the public still support her?
“When I say public, you go and do an engagement and there’s a great many people there.”
