Princess Charlotte will make HISTORY when the new baby arrives — this is why
PRINCESS Charlotte will create history when she and her brother Prince George welcome their sibling later this month.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are due to have their third child any time now, but the birth will be especially significant for the little princess.
This is because the two-year-old will become the first female royal to retain her claim to the throne irrespective of whether her new sibling is a boy or a girl, reports the Independent.
It’s because the Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 no longer diminishes a female royal’s claim to the throne by the arrival of a younger brother.
The legislative act, passed five years ago, states: “In determining the succession to the Crown, the gender of a person born after 28 October 2011 does not give that person, or that person’s descendants, precedence over any other person (whenever born).”
This means that if the couples first child, five-year-old Prince George was born a girl, he would have been next in line to the throne after his grandfather the Prince of Wales and his father Prince William.
The previous succession act from 1701, says brothers would always come before their sisters in the line of succession to become monarch.
The news of succession comes as a survey recently showed almost half of Brits want William, 35, to take the reigns after Queen Elizabeth.
“He has said he has no desire to ‘climb the ladder of kingship’”
But Prince Charles is likely to take the throne next as William does not want to become King yet, according to a leading royal expert.
William’s royal ambitions are far less grand than his dad’s, Gill Knappett has written in “Charles, Prince of Wales”.
She said: “Prince William does not wish to take the throne early.
“Although like his father, William will be destined to have a far shorter reign than his grandmother, he has said he has no desire to ‘climb the ladder of kingship’ before his time.”
Gill also believes Charles, 69, will win over the British public if he takes the crown.
She added: “The Queen’s quiet dignity and grace won her a place in the hearts of the British people long ago.
“Without a doubt, when the time comes our new King will serve with a strength of character that will continue to see our Royal Family the envy of the world.”
