Growing up royal can’t be easy. Constantly being in the spotlight, wondering why photographers are always snapping photos… surely it’s difficult to just have a normal childhood. But that’s precisely what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are trying to provide for their three children.
Prince George may be the future king of England, but that doesn’t mean he gets whatever he wants. Prince William was most likely influenced by his mother, Princess Diana, who realized the value of keeping her kids humble.
And Princess Charlotte? She’s also enjoying a normal childhood complete with playing outside, making friends at preschool, doing craft projects with her mom, and eating cheesy pasta.
Are Prince George and Princess Charlotte friends?
Not all siblings get along, and so far, it’s hard to tell if Prince George and Princess Charlotte will grow up to be best friends. But they do have a few things in common besides just their royal lineage. For one thing, they’re both being raised in the same royal household. Both children were also involved in ballet lessons and are likely to share similar activities in the future.
Charlotte has gotten a reputation for being a little bossy, however. It may be stereotypical for the older brother to protect his little sister, but in their household things may be opposite. Their grandmother Queen Elizabeth admitted that Charlotte is the one in charge at home.
Their futures will be very different even though the children are part of the same family. Prince George will become King while Princess Charlotte may become involved in other royal duties. But here’s the thing they have in common right now and for the future: their parents love them deeply. That, and they both have really cute nicknames.
Kate Middleton recently let slip the nickname she has for her daughter, Princess Charlotte. On a visit to Northern Ireland, the Duchess was chatting with another mom about her son. Kate asked how old the boy was, and when the mom replied that he was four, she said, “Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie!”
Lottie is popular way to shorten the name Charlotte and it was adorable, though probably not intentional, that Kate Middleton shared the nickname.
Does Prince George have a nickname?
Meanwhile, royal family followers have been speculating that Prince George has a nickname, too. The 5-year-old was out for a walk when he came upon a woman walking her dog. When the woman asked for his name, the mini future monarch said his name was “Archie.”
Is this a true nickname for Prince George? An imaginary friend? Or perhaps he was having a bit of fun. In any case, Kate Middleton calls both her children by the nickname “Poppet,” which is a common term of endearment for little ones.
It’s unclear why, but aren’t royal nicknames just the cutest thing in the world? Lottie, Poppet, Archie… we seriously love them all.
