PRINCESS Beatrice’s private wedding was full of surprises, right down to her dress, which she had a shock last minute change of heart over.
Princess Beatrice’s wedding plans were turned upside down when the coronavirus pandemic forced the royal to cancel her plans for a big, full-scale royal wedding. However, the change didn’t stop there as the princess decided she was going to break tradition and sport a hand me down dress instead.
Beatrice was originally due to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, in a larger ceremony in May, but ended up opting for a much smaller affair in July.
The day was full of surprises, as the ceremony itself was not announced ahead of time.
The Princess of York tied the knot with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in an under the radar ceremony in Windsor attended by just 20 guests.
The royal nuptials were only made public after they had taken place and only a handful of wedding photographs have been released.

The royal bride even made some other crucial last-minute changes to her outfit.
After having second thoughts about the dress she had originally chosen for the big day, Beatrice asked her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, if she could borrow a gown for the occasion.
The dress Beatrice ended up wearing was from the Queen’s own wedding-gown designer, Norman Hartnell.
A source close to Beatrice told People the princess had “made a request” to borrow a gown from the Queen.

They said: “That was kindly granted—and it looked amazing!
“It was touching for both of them.”
Beatrice also borrowed the Queen’s own wedding tiara for the big day.
Her majesty originally wore the tiara when she walked down the aisle to wed Prince Philip in 1947.

Another source added: “Beatrice talks about her grandmother often, and it’s clear there’s a strong bond there—the dress and the tiara could not have been more perfect.”
The Queen’s trusted stylist Angela Kelly helped remodel and refit the 1960’s evening gown to serve as a wedding dress in just three weeks.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were among the guests and are the only other royals to appear in Beatrice’s official wedding snaps.
Princess Beatrice’s father Prince Andrew, 60, mother Sarah Ferguson, 60, and sister Princess Eugenie, 30, all attended the wedding.

However, none of them feature in the official photos.
One royal commentator claimed the decision to make the Queen and Philip the only royals to appear in Princess Beatrice’s public wedding photos “makes total sense”.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The wedding of Princess Beatrice to Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Windsor was certainly a surprise.
“It has been recorded for posterity by the release of a series of photographs which are enchanting.

“The decision to concentrate on the happy couple and Beatrice’s grandparents in the photographs released to the public was an excellent one, as well as the only practical one.
“Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank were present, but did not appear in any of the photos either.
“Since this wedding was a well-kept secret, this choice of photographs made total sense.
“If Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who live together at nearby Royal Lodge, had been included in them there would have been instant controversy.”
