ROYAL fans were split when Anne, Princess Royal, shared a photograph of her living room to celebrate Scotland’s historic Six Nations rugby victory over England on Saturday.

To mark Scotland’s 11-6 victory over England the official Royal Family Instagram account shared a photo of the couple watching the game from their Gatcombe Park home.

In the image, Princess Anne and her husband can be seen watching the match on a television from a sofa.

A coffee table, which holds a number of books, is immediately in front of the couple whilst a dog bed is by the TV.

Further back shelves display horse-riding memorabilia, family photographs and ornaments.

The photo sparked a mixed reaction from royal fans with many praising the image for being “normal-looking” while others mocked it for being “claustrophobic”.

One Instagram user posted: “I love that their house looks like anyone’s grandmother’s house.”

Another joked: “And I was worried about my clutter!”

A third added: I feel a little claustrophobic just looking at all the stuff in their living room.”

Meanwhile another post trolled the hardest-working senior royal with a Bernie Sanders meme.

In total more than 125,000 royal fans liked the photo on Instagram.

Scotland’s against the odds victory was their first at Twickenham since 1983, giving them the Calcutta Cup which England and Scotland compete for annually as part of the Six Nations competition.

The Royal Family Instagram post was accompanied by a message congratulating the Scottish team on their triumph.

“Her Royal Highness and Vice Admiral Sir Tim cheered Scotland on from home today as they played England for the Calcutta Cup, 150 years since their first match.”

Anne isn’t the only Royal Family member with a close connection to rugby as Prince William and Prince Harry are royal patrons of the Welsh and English rugby unions respectively.

Harry is also a supporter of rugby league and last year hosted the 2021 Rugby League World Cup draw at Buckingham Palace.
