Is Prince William interested in becoming king?
According to a new analysis, the younger royals including Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are the least hardworking royals. The Duchess of Cambridge only carried out a total of 87 royal engagements while the Duchess of Sussex was able to partake in 96 events.
However, many also noticed the low number of the Duke of Cambridge’s official duties. Prince William only joined 220 royal engagements, and they are too few compared to his grandmother and father’s engagements.
Queen Elizabeth II carried out 283 engagements. On the other hand, the Prince of Wales attended 507 royal duties. This prompted the anti-monarchy group, Republic, to question Prince William’s interest in the throne. The group isn’t sure if Middleton’s husband is really interested in the monarchy.
“But the real question these figures raise is does William want to be king?” the group asked. “Or is he just doing the bare minimum to keep his family happy in the hope he can have his cake and eat it?”
Prince William used to be a helicopter pilot. He left his job to be a full-time royal. However, the critics couldn’t understand why he only attended few events.
Meanwhile, Middleton and Markle’s low engagement numbers are understandable. The pregnant royal only joined the British royal family in May when she married Prince Harry. In fact, this is the first time, the former “Suits” star appeared on the list.
On the other hand, Middleton took a six-month leave when she was expecting Prince Louis. The Duchess of Cambridge suffered from severe morning sickness that she had to cancel her engagements following her pregnancy announcement in September 2017. After a month she went back into attending royal engagements and went out of the spotlight from April until October last year.
While Prince William, Middleton and Markle were among the least hardworking royals, Princess Anne was considered the busiest member of the firm. The Royal Princess was involved with over 300 charities, organizations and military regiments. According to the Court Circular analysis, Princess Anne worked for 180 days.
The report only counted the number of days each royal conducted official duties. It did not show how many engagements they took part in each day and how long it lasted.
Prince Anne was also named the busiest royal by the Times in 2017. In that year, Prince Charles’s sister made a total of 455 appearances at charity events, dinner, receptions and overseas engagements.
