Prince William spoke from personal experience after struggles of ‘seeing death and trauma’

PRINCE WILLIAM spoke about the difficulties of seeing “death, sadness and trauma” and referenced his own personal experience when doing so, according to two royal commentators.

Royal experts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson said Prince William was speaking candidly about his own feelings and experiences while talking about dealing with and processing daily grief in a Zoom call with front-line workers. While speaking on their show Royal Rota, the pair agreed the Duke of Cambridge was referring to his time working for the emergency ambulance service. During his speech to the front-line workers, William reiterated the importance of maintaining good mental health as the difficulties of daily death and sadness can be overwhelming.

Mr Ship said: “Prince William spoke to some of the frontline NHS staff and the impact it is having on their mental health.

“I thought he raised a really valid point in the number of deaths that we are seeing at the moment.

“Let’s remind ourselves that this week alone we have hit the highest number of deaths in a 24 hour period twice this week so far.

“Prince William was speaking on how that affects those on the front line and he was speaking with some personal experience.”

Ms Robinson agreed and noted key points the Prince made while speaking on the issue.

She said: “Prince William said it really worries him about the effect on the lives of the emergency responders who are seeing such high levels of sadness and trauma day in and day out.

“We have heard him touch on those experiences in the past, you were there for one of his speeches he made when he talked about how that impacts your life and what you take home with you.”

During his chat with front-line workers, Prince William spoke in depth about the difficulties of dealing with grief and death daily and offered a view into his own feelings.

He said: “Something that I noticed from my brief spell flying the ambulance for the team was when you see so much death and bereavement it does impact how you see the world.

“It is very interesting what you said about being able to see things in a different light.

“I think you said about everyone around you dying and that is what really worries me about the frontline staff at the moment.

“You are so under the cosh at the moment, so pressurised and you are seeing such high levels of sadness, trauma and death that it impacts your own life and family life.

“This is because it is always there and you are so drawn into it.

“Everyone, it is only natural that would happen, but that’s why a lot of the public don’t understand when you are surrounded by that level of intense sadness and bereavement it really does stay with you.

“It stays with you, it stays with you for weeks and you see the world in a much more slightly depressed, blacker, darker place.”
