Diana’s memory kept alive for Prince George and Princess Charlotte with bedtime stories

THE memory of Diana is being kept alive for Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the Duke of Cambridge has revealed.

Prince William said he regularly talks to his children about his mother and there are photos of “granny Diana” dotted around their house.

The Duke said: “It’s important they know who she was and that she existed.”

George, who celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday, and two-year-old Charlotte know Kate’s mother Carole Middleton as their grandmother but William is determined his children should also have Diana in their lives.

Speaking on the ITV documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, he added: “I think, constantly talking about granny Diana, so we’ve got more photos up round the house now of her and we talk about her a bit and stuff.

George and Charlotte are often put to bed with stories about the people’s princess to remind them “there are two grandmothers in their lives”.

William continued: ”It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her, she cannot really provide that level of detail.”

Recalling fond memories of his mother William jokingly added that if Diana was around today she would be probably “a nightmare grandmother” causing fun havoc at the children’s bath times but she would have loved George and Charlotte to bits.

The Duke said: “She’d be a nightmare grandmother, absolute nightmare. She’d love the children to bits, but she’d be an absolute nightmare.”

He added: “She’d come, probably at bath time, cause an amazing … scene, bubbles everywhere, bath water all over the place, and then leave.”

Earlier this month George and Charlotte joined their parents and Prince Harry at a service to re-dedicate Diana’s grave at her family’s ancestral home Althorp House, on her birthday July 1.

Speaking about his mother, William added: “I want to make as much time and effort with Charlotte and George as I can because I realise these early years particularly are crucial for children, having seen what she did for us.”
