Prince William, Prince Harry Loved By Americans For This Reason: ‘It’s Diana’
Prince William and Prince Harry are well loved by Americans, and it’s primarily due to their late mother, Princess Diana.
Victoria Arbiter, a royal expert, told Express that Americans loved the Princess of Wales, and their fondness for her extended down to her two sons.
“Well, initially it was Diana. It was all Diana, they just loved her. They just thought Diana was everything. Now by extension, William and Harry being her sons, they’ve watched William and Harry grow up, they’ve watched them have their own fairytale weddings,” she said.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding was viewed by 29 million Americans on May 19. This figure is higher than the number of audiences that tuned in to watch this year’s Oscars. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nuptials also aired on 15 networks, a figure that is also higher than the number of networks that covered Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding.
“I think earlier American generations admired the Queen and the Queen had visited the States a number of times. But it was Diana that really resonated, no question, she had that movie star glamour. Americans love this glamour, this beauty, they really buy into that. They really buy into the fairytale of the royal family, the prince and princess stories, and Meghan and Kate really tick those boxes for them,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Arbiter also talked about Prince William and Prince Harry’s royal duties. When asked if she thinks the siblings are consciously continuing their mom’s work, the expert said that they most certainly are.
“William took on homelessness charity Centrepoint and the Royal Marsden Hospital, which were both charities which Diana was involved in. Harry campaigned on landmines and HIV/AIDS which were both issues that Diana was passionate about. Very consciously they are continuing her work without question. They do it to honor their mother and continue her causes,” Arbiter said.
Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31, 1997, when her sons were just teenagers.
