PRINCE WILLIAM held off on his relationship with Kate, Duchess of Cambridge “for the monarchy”, according to a new book.
Royal expert Robert Lacey wrote about Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s relationship in his new book, Battle of the Brothers. While Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge seem happier-than-ever these days, it seems as though their relationship wasn’t always a happy affair. Prince William knew the Duchess of Cambridge for 10 years before they tied the knot in 2011.
Writing in Battle of the Brothers, Mr Lacey wrote: “‘Waity William’, of course, took so long to commit to Kate for the sake of the monarchy.
“He had been auditioning her for a job all those years.”
In the book, Mr Lacey also writes about how recent events caused a big rift between Prince Harry and Prince William and his wife.
The Duke of Cambridge was reportedly worried about the impact Harry’s marriage to Meghan would have on the monarchy.

He cited his reasons for waiting ten years before marrying the Duchess of Cambridge as being that he wanted to make sure it was a right fit, for all involved.
The Duke of Cambridge reportedly resented his brother for not taking the same care and courtesy towards the monarchy.
Mr Lacey explained: “For William, it was the future state of his monarchy – his sacred trust.
“While for Harry, it was the love of the complex and captivating woman who had finally made sense of his life.

“William worried that his brother was moving too fast in his courtship.
“And he did not shrink from saying as much when Harry started talking about getting hitched to Meghan quite soon.”
Mr Lacey claims William confronted his younger brother about his concerns, but Harry thought he was “thinking about the makeup and fortune of ‘the Firm’” over his own happiness.
He added: “The response from Harry was a brusque and offended pushback.”

It comes after bombshell claims of the brothers’ rift appeared in Finding Freedom, a biography about Harry and Meghan written by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie.
Harry was left livid when his brother told him not to rush the relationship, referring to Meghan as “this girl”, say the authors of Finding Freedom.
The book reads: “Harry could see through William’s words. He was being a snob.”
Finding Freedom also claimed the Duchess of Sussex was upset because the Duchess of Cambridge “didn’t reach out” when she entered the Royal Family.
Meghan felt she was the victim of racism in her royal role by being labelled “demanding” and “aggressive”.
Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote: “William wanted to make sure the American actress had the right intentions.”
Finding Freedom quotes a source as saying: “After all, these are two brothers that have spent their whole lives with people trying to take advantage of them.
“As William didn’t know a lot about Meghan, he wanted to make sure that Harry wasn’t blindsided by lust.”
