Prince William follows in Meghan Markle and Harry’s footsteps with latest engagement

PRINCE WILLIAM seems to have followed in his younger brother Prince Harry’s footsteps with his latest royal engagement. Here’s how the Duke took a leaf out of Meghan Markle and Harry’s book to promote his new environmental prize.

Prince William has appeared as a guest on environmental podcast Outrage + Optimism: Global Optimism to talk about his new project to tackle climate change.

In the special episode, which will be released on Friday, the Duke talks about his hope for the future.

Global Optimism shared about William’s collaboration on Twitter, writing: “TOMORROW: Our special guest is Prince William.

“We talked to HRH about the @EarthshotPrize and #optimism that “we can as human beings turn this around.

Prince William is not the only royal to have taken part in a podcast in recent weeks as Prince Harry and Meghan have done so too.

Despite stepping away from the royal limelight, Meghan and Harry continue to campaign for causes close to their hearts, including mental health.

To mark World Mental Health Day, the Sussexes took part in Teenage Therapy podcast.

The podcast is hosted by a group of teenagers who discussed the pitfalls of social media as well as the impact the pandemic was having on people’s mental health globally.

Introducing the episode on Instagram, the Teenager Therapy account wrote: “In honour of World Mental Health Day, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down with us for a conversation about prioritizing mental health, removing the stigma around the issue, and how we can all contribute to a healthier world: physically, mentally, emotionally, holistically.”

The caption added: “We cannot emphasize enough how honoured we are to be able to bring you this important conversation.

“We hope you enjoy it and find something you can apply to your own life. Take care of yourself, you deserve to be loved.”

Speaking during the podcast Meghan touched being at the receiving end of negative social media.

The Duchess said: “I can speak personally, too. I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world—male or female.

“Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible.

“I was on maternity leave or with a baby but was able to just be manufactured and churned out. It’s almost unsurvivable.

“That’s so big you can’t even think of what that feels like, because I don’t care if you’re 15 or you’re 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”

On the same weekend that Harry and Meghan’s podcast episode aired, Prince William gave a Ted Talk to plug the Earthshot Prize.

The Kensington Royal introduced the Duke’s important talk on Instagram by sharing a previously unseen photo.

The caption read: “Behind the scenes of Prince William’s @ted talk — visit @tedcountdown to watch the full talk.

“‘I’ve long been inspired by President John F Kennedy’s 1961 mission to put a man on the moon within a decade – he named it the moonshot.”

The post continued: “‘It seemed crazy. Humans had only just launched the first satellite- putting a man on the moon, that quickly seemed impossible.’

“‘But now, rather than a moonshot, we need Earthshots for this decade.

“We must harness that same spirit of human ingenuity and purpose and turn it with laser-sharp focus and urgency on the most pressing challenge we have ever faced – repairing our planet.’

“Prince William’s talk was given as part of @tedcountdown, the first free and virtual TED Conference devoted entirely to championing and accelerating solutions to the climate crisis.”
