Prince William admits heartbreak over Prince Harry split – ‘I can’t do it anymore’

PRINCE WILLIAM has admitted his “sadness” over Prince Harry’s partial detachment from the rest of the Royal family according to an incendiary report.

The Sunday Times reports the Prince told a friend the Royal family no longer acts as a “team”. He is reported to have said: “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore.

“We’re separate entities. I’m sad about that.

“All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page.

“I want everyone to play on the team.”

On Wednesday Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world be announcing they are standing down as “senior” royals.

Instead they plan to become “financially independent” and split their time between the UK and North America.

Talks are expected to take place at Sandringham in an effort to prevent an open rift.

Hosted by the Queen they are believed to involve Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry with Meghan participating via conference call.

There are questions about how many royal engagements Harry and Meghan will continue to undertake, who will fund their security and how they will earn an independent income.

Currently Meghan is in Canada with her son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

The royal couple spent six weeks, including Thanksgiving and Christmas, in the commonwealth country.

According to The Sunday Times some of those close to Prince Harry believe advisors to either Prince William or Prince Charles leaked information about his plans to The Sun.

These had reportedly been intended as the basis for discussion within the royal family.

However others are said by the paper to blame an American PR company linked to Meghan.

Separately controversy has broken out over who will pay for Harry and Meghan’s security if they move to Canada.

The Governor General, who represents the Queen in Canada, is protected by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and there is speculation the same could be required for Meghan and Harry.

This could be the case even if the couple continue to have a British royal protection squad.

Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph Aaron Wudrick, director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, raised concerns about the cost.

He said: “I thought it was very interesting when they used the term ‘financial independence’.

“The details remain to be seen. There’s always going to be a cost and the public deserve some prudence.

“I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect us to pay for everything the way we do for a royal visit.

“If they’re going to make Canada a second home, a good step in the right direction would be to pay for at least part of it, and not rely on taxpayers to fund their entire lifestyle.”

Meghan lives in Toronto, Canada, for several years during the filming of US legal drama Suits.
