PRINCE HARRY’S ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas has opened up over her fears that her connection to the Royal Family could hinder her acting career and is “still something she has to contend with”.

The 31-year-old is known in many circles for her ties to the Windsors, including being an ex-girlfriend of Harry and partying with the likes of Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. However, she says these links have proved difficult as she has carved out her own career as a model and actress. Over the years, Ms Bonas has kept in touch with the Royal Family, despite splitting from Harry in 2014 after being introduced to him by his cousin Princess Eugenie.

Two years after their amicable split, she was seen enjoying Glastonbury with Princess Eugenie and was even invited to Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.

But speaking to Australia’s Daily Telegraph last week, Ms Bonas said the term ‘It girl’ was something that she believed was “narrow-minded” and not something she wants to be.

She explained: “I think that I work very, very hard, I love what I do, and I just hope that this role has shown people what I can do and what I would like to do going forward and not be caught in a box in any way.

“No one likes to be labelled, no matter what it is about or where they come from.”

In the same interview, Ms Bonas said that the royal connection presents “hurdles and barriers” when she is working.

She also admitted it was something “people want to talk about”.

The Winchester-born actress added: “I work very hard and love what I do – I just want to continue. But it is still something I have to contend with. It is what it is. People will perhaps always ask me about it.”

Ms Bonas has gone on to appear on the stage and screen, including a run in the show ‘The Great Gatsby’ and in TV series ‘White House Farm’.

But it was her relationship with Harry which is what she is most renowned for in terms of royal ties.

Reflecting on their time together, royal author Kate Nicholl wrote in the 2017 book ‘Harry, Life, Loss and Love’ that Ms Bonas had opted to end the relationship after witnessing Kate Middleton carry out her own royal duties.

She wrote: “Cressida had been ‘completely spooked’ while watching TV coverage of William, Kate and George touring New Zealand and Australia that spring.”

A friend told Ms Nicholl: “She was sitting at home watching Kate on the royal tour of Australia, and it was a wake-up call.

“There was no way she wanted that sort of attention and she told Harry so.”

The friend also revealed: “Harry didn’t want things to end.

“He was in love with her and he tried to convince her they could make it work, but Cressida’s mind was made up.

“Harry suffered a real blow when she said ‘I can’t do this.’ I think she really broke his heart.”

Another of Harry’s former flames is also still in contact with members of the Royal Family.

Chelsy Davy, like Ms Bonas, was also present at the royal wedding in 2018.

She is also known as being close to the likes of Princess Eugenie.
