PRINCE HARRY’s uncle Charles Spencer didn’t attend the christening of little Archie Harrison because the pair have been “distant for a long time” and Princess Diana’s brother is now paying a belated price “for his selfishness”, a source claimed.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated the christening of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on July 6 with just 25 guests. A family portrait released hours after the baptism took place in Windsor revealed which members of the family attended the event. Eagle-eyed royal fans noticed Harry and Meghan paid tribute to late Princess Diana by inviting her sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes. But her brother, the 9th Earl Spencer, was nowhere to be seen.
A source said it was expected Lord Spencer would not attend the christening, after he and Harry fell out years ago.
They told the Sun on Sunday: “It was no surprise that the Earl was not at the christening as he and Harry have been distant for a long time now.
“The falling out goes back years and it is hard to see them ever making amends.
“Harry has always been closer to his aunties and he is not a big fan of Charles or his wife.

“The earl is paying the price for his selfishness.”
While Archie was being christened, Lord Spencer was giving a speech at the Winchester Festival in Hampshire to promote his book To Catch A King: Charles II’s Great Escape.
It is suggested tensions between Harry and his uncle may have started in 1993, following Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s split.
Three letters found at the home of the late Princess of Wales in 2002 show how Lord Spencer turned down Diana’s request to move into the family’s Althorp estate just months after her separation from her husband became public.

Dated in June 1993, the letters reveal how Lord Spencer initially thought about giving Diana the so-called Garden House on the grounds of his estate – only to have a huge change of heart just two weeks later.
Lord Spencer wrote: “I am sorry but I have decided that the Garden House is not a possible move.
“There are many reasons, most of which centre on the inevitable police and press interference that will follow.
“I know you will be disappointed but I know I am doing the right thing for my wife and children. I am just sorry I cannot help my sister!
“Seriously though, there are farmhouses around here that may well not interfere with us, but I cannot afford to give them rent free although I wish I could.

“In theory it would be lovely to help you out and I am sorry I can’t do that.
“Victoria and I really value our privacy and the combined pressure of the Northants police, neighbours and friends have definitely compromised that.
“If you are really interested in renting a farmhouse, either here or in Warwickshire or Norfolk, that would be wonderful.”
Lord Spencer and his wife Karen Gordon attended Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding on May 19 last year – but were placed at the back of St George’s Chapel, further from the altar than A-listers such as tennis star Serena Williams and George and Amal Clooney.
