Prince Harry snub: How one move by the Queen motivated Harry to leave Royal Family

PRINCE HARRY and Meghan Markle began their new life outside of the Royal Family, but what surprising move by the Queen might have pushed the Sussexes into their decision?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared on primetime TV in the USA on Tuesday for Voter Registration Day urging Americans to make their voices heard in the upcoming US Presidential election on November 3. Harry and Meghan have made several virtual appearances amid the COVID-19 crisis, but none of which have been in an official royal capacity. But could the Queen have prompted the royal exit? Prince Harry was born into the Royal Family, while Meghan joined upon her marriage to Harry in 2018. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child into the Royal Family a year later. But just seven months later the couple shocked the world by announcing their intended departure from royal life. The Sussex couple then left their senior roles within the Royal Family officially at the end of March, moving to the USA where they have remained throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The Queen was reportedly “deeply upset” at their decision, while Prince Charles and Prince William were said to be “incandescent with rage”. At the time of the announcement, a senior source told The Sun: “Their statement was not cleared with anyone. It breaks all protocol. This is a declaration of war on the family. “There is fury over how they’ve done this without any thought for the implications for the institution. “The Queen is deeply upset. The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage. “Courtiers can’t believe it. There are so many unanswered questions but they’ve just up and done it without a thought for anyone else. “The plan was there to discuss it and work out a way that works for everyone in the family.”

The new biography about the couple written by royal experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand called Finding Freedom claims they felt sidelined by other royals, and in particular the Queen. The royal authors said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex felt other royals were being prioritised over them, in particular in regards to their charity work. The pair claim the couple’s mind was made up when they saw the Queen’s photograph display on her desk for her Christmas speech. In the Queen’s Christmas speech delivered on Christmas Day 2019, the Monarch placed four-family images on her desk. These images featured the Queen’s father King George VI, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Cambridge family. However, the Sussex couple and their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor who was in fact born earlier that same year were absent. The Mirror’s royal expert Russell Myers claims the couple were clearly upset by this decision. Speaking to Channel 5’s Meghan and Harry: The New Revelations, Mr Myers said the lack of photograph upset the couple deeply. He said: “The lack of a photograph of them during the Queen’s Christmas speech obviously had an effect on them. “The book will tell you in detail how this made them feel. “They felt it was a slight, they felt put out.”

The book reads: “Harry felt as though he and Meghan had long been sidelined by the institution and were not a fundamental part of its future. “One didn’t have to look further than the family photos displayed during the Queen’s Speech on Christmas Day. “In the Green Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, where the Queen delivered her address, viewers glimpsed photos of the Cambridges and their children, Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip and a black and white image of the sovereign’s father, King George VI. “Noticeably absent was a photo of Harry, Meghan and their new baby, Archie. “Palace sources insisted that the photos were chosen to represent the direct line of succession, but for Harry and Meghan, it was yet another sign that they needed to consider their own path.” However, many royal experts claim the move on behalf of the Queen was not undertaken in malice. Instead, it was simply a reflection of the Royal Family as a whole. Royal expert Katie Nicholls told Channel 5: “What I think the Queen was trying to demonstrate in that message was the future of the Monarchy, the future heirs and the future sovereigns. “Harry and Harry’s son are not there. They don’t have that place on the table.” Source: EXPRESS CO UK
