Prince Harry and President Obama’s Bromance Takes Center Court at the Invictus Games
With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lovey-dovey debut, we knew romance was in the air at the Invictus Games—but it looks like bromance is, too.
Cameras spotted the ginger prince and President Obama basking in each other’s company at a wheelchair basketball game. And we mean basking: There’s image after image of the two, laughing, smiling, cheering, and listening super-intently to each other. Pure, honest, brotherly love.
Sitting near them? Jill and Joe Biden—Obama’s de facto work husband. Hope he wasn’t too jealous.
Prince Harry and Obama have been friends for awhile. It’s been publicly chronicled, anyway, since 2015, when Prince Harry worked with the president, and former First Lady Michelle Obama, on Orlando’s Invictus Games (Michelle may even be friendlier with Harry than her husband is). The two parties even got in a “social media war,” where they released dueling PSAs for the sporting event. At the end of it all, despite the formality of the occasion, Michelle and Harry hugged onstage at the Invictus opening ceremony.
But after the Obamas left the White House, it was unclear whether their special relationship would survive. No more state visits to Buckingham Palace! No more official functions or diplomatic duties! Would Harry move on to the next-coolest head of state?
Thankfully, there was an inkling that everything was okay in June, when Obama tweeted that he visited his “friend Harry.” And now there’s visual confirmation: The U.S.-British bromance is strong.
