PRINCESS Diana “became too big for the Royal Family” and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be heading in the same direction, a historian has claimed.

On this week’s episode of Yahoo’s Royal Box, historian Anna Whitelock claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are teetering on the edge of celebrity and royal.

She warned the royal couple could be heading in the same direction as Princess Diana and may result in them out-growing the Royal family.

“Harry and Meghan are in this situation where actually they are significant to the royal brand in the sense of generating interest but actually not significant to the monarchy in terms of its future,” she explained.

She went on to add that couple are “cultivating themselves as a social media couple”.

After launching their own Instagram profile only weeks ago, the couple broke Guinness World Records by reaching over one million followers in less than six hours.

Anna further added: “I think the line that they’re walking and are going to have to walk very carefully, is between royalty and celebrity.

“They may end up diverting too far away from the royal brand and become celebrities in their own right.

The historian added claims that Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, did the same thing during her time married to Prince Charles.’

Diana generated masses of global interest for the Royal Family in the 1980s and 1990s, and after their separating in 1992, she was often surrounded by her A-list friends at high-profile events.

“The problem is, if you’re a royal you can generate lots and lots of interest and lots of appeal, but ultimately it’s got to be for the firm, it can’t be for any one person,” Anna said.

“Of course that’s where Diana, to some extent, came unstuck because brand Diana became bigger than that of the Royal Family.”

But Anna claimed Harry’s brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton won’t have the same problem.

“I think in a sense Kate and William are very much the royal couple,” she continued.

“They have to be, very soon they’re going to be next in line to the throne.”

It comes after Princess Diana “spoke from the grave” and delivered a warning to Meghan.

On Monday, it was claimed that Harry and Meghan will “move to Africa” to “stop the Duchess from becoming bigger than Diana”.
