PRINCE GEORGE, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will have learnt an important but painful lesson following the tragic death of a beloved family pet, a royal expert has claimed.

Kate and William opened up about their grief in a heartfelt Instagram post last weekend.

The royal couple shared a majestic photo of the black spaniel alongside a moving message.

The post read: “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away.

“He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W & C.”

The Cambridge’s loss was discussed by royal experts Omid Scobie and Maggie Rulli in the latest episode of the ABC royal podcast The HeirPod.

Omid said: “We did have some quite sad news shared on the Kensington Royal Instagram earlier this week where both William and Kate posted that their dear dog Lupo the, English cocker spaniel that you will have seen in many photos that I think was born in 2011 – so nine years old, had passed away.

“They said he had ‘been at the heart of their family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.’

“Shared alongside a photo shared by them and you know, I remember when Lupo first came on the scene.”

Maggie interjected: “Do you really?”

Omid continued: “And I remember the furore around what his name was.

“It was just something that took up so much time for the press officers and communications staff at Kensington Palace who of course had been instructed by the couple not to reveal his name.

“I mean Deja Vu, we’ve had this same thing with Harry and Meghan’s dog as well.”

Following on from Omid’s comments, Maggie described Lupo’s death as an “emotional trip down memory lane” for the royal couple.

She said: “I’m sure it’s kind of a walk down memory lane for them.

“I often find with people and their dogs, you know, it’s such a moment in their lives you know.

“When you got the dog you’re a young couple, and then all of a sudden together they’ve had this dog, they’ve had the children, the kids are growing up with the dog.

“I mean it’s almost more, remembering the dog is more than the dog even, it’s also remembering the past few years of their life.

“And so, seeing that on Instagram it was pretty emotional.”

Omid added: “Well Lupo pre-dates George, Charlotte and Louis.”

Speaking about Lupo’s death he added: “It’s obviously something that will have hit their family hard, especially for children, they will have no doubt been attached to him.”

Maggie went on to point out the important life lesson Lupo’s death will have been for William and Kate’s children.

She said: “Yeah, it’s a good point it’s such a lesson in life for kids as well.

“And another reminder that whether you’re a royal kid or a regular kid you have to learn about loss at some point.

“And so to go through the loss of one of your first pets that’s really hard.”
