Prince George and Princess Charlotte ‘love to learn’ as Kate hands-on with homeschooling

KATE has a hands-on approach to homeschooling Prince George and Princess Charlotte who “love to learn”, according to a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are busy homeschooling George, seven, and Charlotte, five, at Anmer Hall in Norfolk while their school Thomas’s Battersea is closed for lockdown. Royal author Katie Nicholl discussed Kate’s approach, including getting outdoors for screen breaks.

Ms Nicholl told OK! magazine: “Kate and William are very involved with the children’s schooling.

“Thomas’s Battersea expects a hands-on approach from parents, that’s part of the reason they picked it.

“George and Charlotte are studious and love to learn, so they are pretty self-sufficient when it comes to Zoom learning.

“But the school likes the children to do practical projects too.”

Ms Nicholl added that Kate’s work around early childhood has had an impact on her homeschooling.

The royal expert said: “Kate has been interested in how outdoor learning can benefit children.

“She got to meet children who had lessons outside and ask how they enjoyed it.

“She saw the benefit first-hand.

“Kate is aware of screen time and tries to limit the children being exposed to too much.

“When the children have a break, she takes them outside, come rain or shine.

“She wants them to get fresh air and be in nature.

“She loves to pick vegetables with them in the gardens.

“If they are learning about rivers or the sea, she and William try to incorporate that into their walks.

“Charlotte is a massive fan of spiders and loves looking at them and learning about them, so they go on spider hunts so that she can see them up close and then let them go.

“Kate is also a great painter and loves art.

“She’s the more creative of her and William and loves to paint with the kids.

“She’s not afraid for the children to get messy with it.”

Kate and Prince William are also parents to two-year-old Prince Louis, who has not yet started school.

They have nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo who is likely to be helping with the children while they have virtual royal engagements.

During the first lockdown, the Cambridges opened up about homeschooling.

Kate told the BBC: “We don’t actually tell the children we’ve actually kept going through the holidays. I feel very mean.

“Someone gave me some very good advice pre-the holidays to put in some structure.

“There’s a pretty strict routine here at home that’s massively helped us all – just having a bit of routine, [a] bit of normality. But it is unusual.”
