PRINCE CHARLES’ apparent middle finger salute to Donald Trump at Tuesday’s Buckingham Palace reception for NATO and world leaders has created a social media storm.

The Queen hosted NATO dignitaries at a special gala evening in order to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the military alliance. US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania were just one of many illustrious guests attending the shin dig. Prince Charles and Camilla joined Her Majesty in welcoming guests to the palace.

When Trump appeared, the Prince of Wales was seen scratching his nose with his middle figure, and then noticeably failing to shake hands with the US leader.

Many social media users have interpreted the Duke of Cornwall’s gesture as a subtle dig at the US President.

Twitter message boards were flooded with users delighting in Charles’ alleged insult towards Trump.

One wrote: “As Trump is annoying the Queen, is Prince Charles really needing to use his middle finger to scratch an itch that just can’t wait, or is he flipping the bird to Trump?

“Just asking.”

Another posted: “Prince Charles flipping the bird at Donald Trump has united people across the Atlantic more than 70 years of Nato summits ever has.”

While a third enthused: “He did me a favour!!!!

“Long live the future KING!!!!!”

A fourth said: “That was so intentional.

“A tip of the hat to the future king.”

A fifth expressed his new found respect for Charles, commenting: “Well good golly, something to admire about an otherwise useless royal.

“Using Dinky Donnie’s own signature move against him?

“Well played, Chuck!”

Earlier on Tuesday, Charles and Camilla hosted Donald and Melania Trump at Clarence House for tea.

But the couple were an hour late, and to add insult to injury, could only give the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall a meagre 15 minutes of their time, Vanity Fair reports.

The two couples posed for photos, with Charles appearing unsmiling in a chequered blue suit and President Trump in a navy blue one.

Both wore blue ties and were flanked by their wives, Melania in a bright yellow number and Camilla in a red gown and smart black jacket.

Reports stated fans of the Trumps shouted “USA!” when they met with Charles and Camilla.

Last June, the two couples met at Clarence House where it was expected Charles and the Republican would lock horns on the issue of climate change.

President Trump told pal Piers Morgan in an ITV interview after the meeting: “He did most of the talking.

“I did say, ‘well, the United States right now has among the cleanest climates there are.”
