Prince Charles doesn’t want to move to Buckingham Palace
Prince Charles is bucking a trend.
The heir to the British throne wants to drop Buckingham Palace as the top royal residence when he becomes king, sources have told the Sunday Times of London.
They also said Charles relayed to his staff that he plans to remain in London’s Clarence House with his wife, Camilla, where the couple is “very comfortable.”
Queen Victoria designated Buckingham Palace an official royal residence in 1837, and the reigning monarch has called it home ever since.
Charles’ son Prince William is said to agree with his pop that the 775-room palace is too big and too expensive for a family house, and would rather see it function as an office that’s more accessible to the public.
“I know [Charles] is no fan of ‘the big house’, as he calls the palace,” a source said. “He doesn’t see it as a viable future home or a house that’s fit for purpose in the modern world.”
