Pippa Middleton and husband ‘appeared like strangers’ before preparing for new title

PIPPA MIDDLETON appeared “like a stranger” when she once sat alongside husband James Matthews, after it emerged she would earn a new title.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister has become a firm favourite among Royal Family fans, and burst into the public’s consciousness when she was Kate Middleton’s Maid of Honour in 2011. Since then she has used her profile to support a wealth of different charities and organisations, regularly putting her love of fitness to the test to raise funds for the likes of the British Heart Foundation. For example, she and James participated in a 47-mile swim, in honour of her partner’s brother who lost his life while on a mountain climbing trek.

This displayed just how firm the couple’s relationship is, and a report claims the pair “appeared like strangers” but were comfortable together.

Body language expert Judi James reviewed pictures of the couple when they attended Wimbledon, an event they attended regularly.

Unfortunately for the couple, this year’s tennis schedule in London was wiped out as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which saw Kate release an emotional video regarding the annual tournament.

And Ms James suggested that at last year’s event, Pippa and James did not seem close.

She said that an “extra person” could be sat in the gap between the pair, while they displayed “no touch or lean rituals, or even eye contact,” adding: “You’d be forgiven for mistaking them as strangers here.

“Pippa smiles in a way to suggest the lack of PDA isn’t a problem here, suggesting two individual people comfortable doing their own thing.”

Kate and husband Prince William were also described by Ms James as showing how deep their relationship was, as their “body distance and touch-free behaviour, combined with the intense and mutual eye-gaze” show their “strong ties of friendship as well as their bonds as a married couple”.

The expert concluded in The Sun: “William’s wide grin suggests Kate enhances his life and lifts his mood.”

More recently, it emerged that Pippa will be given the title of the Lady of Glen Affric, after her husband becomes the Laird.

Royal author Marlene Koenig argued that the title itself won’t be a royal one.

She told Town & Country in 2018: “[James’s] father bought a feudal barony.

“‘Laird’ is not a title, but a description applied by those living on and around the estate. Ownership of a souvenir plot of land does not bring with it the right to any description such as ‘laird,’ ‘lord,’ or ‘lady.'”

Despite not having a similar title to her sister, Pippa and Kate continue to maintain a solid relationship.

Pippa, 37, is widely known for keeping a low profile away from the Royal Family, yet during an unearthed interview, Kate’s sister discussed her relationship with the Duchess of Cambridge, and how that had altered since she joined the Firm in 2011.

When asked how things had changed between the two sisters, she said: “Not particularly, I mean obviously she has pressures that she’s taking on and things but we spend a lot of time together.

“We still do a lot together as a family and I think that sort of the part for all of us is having a really close family that we can sort of be normal with each other, treat each other normally and that sort of keeps us fixed to the ground.”

She added: “We have a very normal sister relationship, where we’re very close and we support each other and get each other’s opinions and things.”

The interview aired in 2014 on Today, a year after Kate gave birth to Prince George, whose arrival was widely marked by the public, and leading political figures, across the globe.
