Royal wedding: Paul Burrell makes Diana admission ahead of Harry and Meghan’s union
PAUL BURRELL has revealed the late Princess Diana would have approved of Meghan Markle for her son Prince Harry ahead of the couple’s nuptials this weekend. The former butler also spoke about the first time he met the young royal.
Paul Burrell, who was a servant of the British royal household for several years, has spoken out on Prince Harry’s union with Meghan Markle ahead of the couple’s marriage.
The 59-year-old claimed the late Princess Diana would have given her blessing to Harry and Meghan.
He said: “I think Diana would have wholeheartedly approved of Meghan.
“Together with Meghan by his side, Harry and she will go out into the world and fulfil Diana’s dreams.”
Recalling when he first met Harry, Paul explained: “I was at Balmoral with the Queen and Diana had been to the Highland Games. She was heavily pregnant.
“She said, ‘It’s a boy, it’s our secret,’” he told ITV’s Lorraine show. “I kept that secret because I couldn’t even tell the Queen, I couldn’t tell my wife, I couldn’t tell anyone.
“This was our secret until Harry was born.”
Paul, who was the personal footman for the Queen and Diana, said he was honoured to be a part of Harry and Prince Williams’s childhood.
“I think watching the young princes grow up was probably the happiest time in my life,” he gushed.
The former butler described Harry as mischievous growing up and said William always detested being the next in line to the throne.
He continued: “Harry as a child was mischievous, naughty and very noisy. He was very different from his brother.
“He and his brother were like chalk and cheese.
“Nannies would always whisper in Williams ear, ‘You’d better sit up straight, you’d better behave, because you’re going to be King one day.’
“‘I don’t want to be King,’ William said one day and Harry piped up, ‘Well, I’ll do the job instead of you then.’”
Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, will say ‘I do’ this weekend at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, a venue that can hold 800 people.
Diana would have wholeheartedly approved of Meghan
The couple were fist reported to be dating in late October 2016 but Kensington Palace confirmed their romance a month later, saying the Prince was worried for her safety.
They made their first public appearance together in October 1, 2017, when they were pictured attending the Invictus Games.
On November 27, 2017 the pair announced their engagement, a statement by the royal palace said: “Her Majesty The Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel.
“The Royal Family will pay for the wedding.”
Harry and Meghan will marry on May 19.
