‘Our future KING is HUMAN!’ – Prince William praised by mum for trying to save her son

Prince William has been praised by the mother of a teenager who tragically died from drowning last summer, as the Royal heroically tried to save the life of her son.

The Duke of Cambridge was part of the East Anglian Air Ambulance and as a former RAF search and rescue pilot, he worked in a team of doctors and paramedics up until July 2017. The Prince flew a H-145 helicopter, which has a maximum speed of 145 knots, covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. And last summer the Royal was part of the air ambulance team that tried to save 16-year-old Robbie when he tragically drowned while swimming with friends in Lee Valley Park in Cheshunt, Herts.
Robbie’s mum, Sarah Lea, was not aware of the Prince’s involvement in her son’s rescue until a friend told her: “A prince tried to save your prince.”

Ms Lea decided to thank the future King afterwards, in a recent heartfelt admission, he revealed how “traumatic” calls involving children affected him deeply during his time as an ambulance pilot.

Sarah, 33, told the Mirror: “I can’t thank Prince William enough.

“For what he did to try to save my son on that terrible day and for now speaking out on mental health issues.

“It shows our future king is human. It was a brave thing to do.”

However, Sarah claimed she, and her seven-year-old boy Mason, have not received enough support after Robbie’s death.

She noted: “I am still in therapy with bereavement and psychiatric counselling but my father-in-law has had to pay for it privately.”

Last week, Prince William, a proud advocate of mental health, opened up about his own struggles and called for improvements regarding psychological support.

At the This Can Happen conference in London, the Duke of Cambridge said: “I worked on several traumatic jobs involving children and after I had my own I think the relation between the job and my personal life is what took me over the edge.

“I started feeling things I’ve never felt before and I got very sad and very down about this particular family.

“The only place you can talk about it is at work and if you don’t necessarily have the right tools or the right environment at work you can see why things can snowball and get quite bad.”
